SolarCity CEO Lyndon Rive believes he has the solution to stepping up the growth rate of the solar industry.

Rive believes the key to acquiring new customers is educating people about the value of choosing the solar route.

SolarCity most recently won an award for its innovative efforts from Home Depot. SolarCity, an Elon Musk-backed company, currently has a partnership with the home improvement store in which SolarCity installments are available for purchase at the store.

In an effort to ramp up sales efforts, Rive hopes to achieve the million customer mark by 2018. Aside of sales through Home Depot, SolarCity also has a door-to-door sales program in which it competes in the residential space with Vivint Solar.
