Canada-based Fluent Home shared tips on how to prepare for a power outage as part of its emergency preparedness series. The summer sales-model company gave several pointers on dealing with power outages as part of its efforts to help families stay secure.

Here are three of the tips Fluent shared:

  • Get an emergency kit ready. Having items on hand that you can use at home or take with you if you need to leave is essential for being prepared.
  • In addition to your emergency kit you may want to keep some coolers on hand to store your frozen and refrigerated items in if it’s during the hot season.
  • During a power outage make sure you unplug sensitive electronics that may get damaged with a sudden surge of power when it returns.
